Chineseness in translation involves a dynamic interchange between drawing and model, challenging the conventional view of architectural drawings as the sole repository of a building's essence. Rejecting essentialism, Evan's approach embraces the ambiguity of translation. Using orthographic projection, seal-prints are transformed through okoshi-ezu techniques to disrupt stagnant conceptual spaces. The series, akin to okoshi-ezu models, depicts volumes imprinted by the seal, blurring the lines between model and drawing. This process activates interior volumes, with seals transcending mere instruments to become integral identities in the architectural or artistic process. While presenting a hybrid of drawing and model, the series addresses disparities through capturing and documenting residues, aiming to create a third space that embraces both New Zealand and Chinese influences.
